The GRID Editor provides a set of drawing tools to easily edit ESRI GRIDS.
ARIS GRID Editor for ArcMap is designed to easily edit ESRI GRID datasets in ArcMap. For instance, one can change the value of a single cell, or change the value of more cells by sketching in the map. The extension combines image editor drawing tools with the possibilities of ArcMap. This creates some advantages above the default ArcMap functionality. In ArcMap it's possible to draw graphics but these are not saved in the underlying geodataset. The GRID Editor saves the drawings directly in the edit grid by changing the cell values. The cellsize of the grid is automatically used for the linesize. The ARIS GRID Editor works without need of any extra ArcMap extensions (no need of Spatial Analyst).
Drawing tools The ARIS GRID Editor extension adds a toolbar to ArcMap. This toolbar provides a set of tools to change the value of one or more cells. With these tools it is possible to:
- draw a free line (pencil)
- draw straight lines from one point to another
- draw a solid polygon
- change the value/color of a zone of cells with identical values (paintcan)
- recover the original value of individual cells
With the ARIS GRID Editor grid layers in an active dataframe in ArcMap can be edited. After starting an edit session the legend of the selected layer is shown in a dockable window. Here a value can be chosen to assign to the selected cells during editing.
Possible uses
One possible use of the ARIS GRID Editor is to correct errors in an existing GRID. For example, when a GRID is input for a model, NODATA cells and wrong cell values at the edges of the GRID can cause the model to create wrong output data. With the ARIS GRID Editor these cell values can simply be modified.
The ARIS GRID Editor can also be used as a sketch tool. The GRID Editor can be used to interactively design plans, which can be processed and evaluated with Spatial Analyst tools immediately.
